Santos (Sonny)'s Story

A quick run down of my life that has passed me by ;-) Upon graduating from CHS I went to Univ. of Santa Clara for a bit, only to be drafted by Uncle Sam, went US Army, made Green Beret and then onto Viet Nam serving two years (actually 22 months/10 days/ 11 hrs. and 32 min)! Received two Purple Hearts, shrapnel in leg, bullet in shoulder before returning home. Went back to school, completed my degrees (Math/Business), then started on my career, Silicon Valley company's first, then onto the Insurance industry where I've been for the past 17 years (American National Ins. Co.) the past 4 years. Overall, I'm doing well, married for 15 years now and looking forward to retirement. I hope, God willing I'm able to attend the 50th School Reunion, wherever it may be... Take care and God bless all. Santos "Sonny" Duran I always wanted to be a Professional Bowler when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a Great idea. As it turns out, they were wrong ;-( Tried it for 3 years, didn't pan out for me as I'd hope.. An excellent Port or good Wine, along with my favorite Cigar. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have my Blackberry Phone, Laptop computer, and Coffee! to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Several actually... All those that lost their lives in Viet Nam and on the Memorial Wall in Washington DC. Today's Navy Seals as well for their continued courage and staunch support of the American Way! The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is John Francesco, because we were Best Friends.. Still an avid Baseball fan and Golf I enjoy greatly, although it doesn't enjoy me ;-) If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the Den and add on a Bar with Flat Screen TV. My dream home would be in Hawaii with an ocean view.. That friendship i...Expand for more
s to be cherished always. My son was/is still my Best Friend to date. If I won $100 million, I'd give to several Cancer charity's of it to help fight the fight, then spend the rest on Me and Family, Friends and Pay for the 50th Class Reunion!. No, did not have that luxury after Nam, I needed to work and go to school, so I didn't enjoy that part of life.... My current age is 64. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be Dead!. I was so completely naive back then.. Always had a strong work ethic, still to this day. My hope is to be able to retire in my dream home in Hawaii, enjoying some golf, fishing, and of course a great Port with my favorite Cigar. My best friend would tell you I'm faithful, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as aloof. God I hope not! Conservative by nature, but I do believe I dress up well enough. I share my home with my Wife and Cat, which I find just right.... A few, from my Bowling days (300 games rolled) and from Golf, winning a couple of tournaments back when I could say I was good at the game. In 10 years, I hope to be Alive!. I'm going to get there by doing what I've always done, drinking my One glass of Red Wine and having a Cigar!. Martin; we met while working at Intel Corp. back in 1973. Helped him move several times over the years; CA to CO, CO to NM, NM to MA, and lastly MA to NY. I consider him my Brother that I never had and his Daughter is my favorite Niece too! My first job was at manufacturing plant in SV, CA, where I got paid Crap to put inventory on shelves. What I remember most about it is BORING!. The day I shook hands with the Say Hey Kid (Willie Mays) just prior to a game at Candlestick Park. I didn't wash my hands for a week ;-) I was in awe, got his signature too.
